He said it would include the construction and rehabilitation of railway lines, the expansion of facilities at the Tema and Takoradi harbours, and provision of new landing sites at Winneba and some other coastal towns in the country.
President Mahama, who made the promise at Mankessim in the Central Region, as part of a three-day tour of the area, said the expansion programme was aimed at decongesting the major roads, by providing alternative means of transport and to create jobs for the people.
He said good governance connotes the provision of family needs, but it was not possible to attain this for every community at the same time, adding śjust like in every family, you cannot provide the needs of all your children at once, what you do is that when you buy a dress for one, you buy sandals for the other.ť
The President said government had embarked on programmes to improve the living condition of Ghanaians, and explained that every community for the past four years had benefited from such programmes.
President Mahama said government would not engage in vain promises, but would rather śbite what it can chewť for the meantime, until adequate funds were made available for more development projects.
śAs a social democratic party, our main concern is to provide social projects across the country, and this we shall do with the available resources to make Ghanaians have the sense of belonging, irrespective of their geographical location,ť President Mahama said.
The President appealed to members of the National Democratic Congress to avoid any conduct that could undermine the country™s peace and unity, and to ensure peace and unity during their campaigns.
President Mahama said elections were not about life and death, and government would provide the necessary logistics for the security services to deal appropriately with individuals or groups that would attempt to derail the progress and gains of government.
He said there was no need for anyone to cause the shedding of blood in the quest for power since śwe are Ghanaians with a common destiny of forging ahead for development and progress of the common people.ť
