He said though he believed the construction of a new MBU, spearheaded by his wife and First Lady, Rebecca Akuffo Addo may have improved maternal health at the facility, it was still imperative to complete the 1,000 bed-capacity project, which began 40 years ago, to befit the status of the second largest referral facility in the country, serving a huge clientele, both within and beyond the borders of Ghana.
The President made the disclosure when he paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, at the Manhyia Palace, as part of his four day working visit to the Ashanti Region.
He was accompanied by various Ministers of State, Members of Parliament as well as Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Region.
He told the Ashanti King that his government would not neglect the Ashanti Region, as it continued to pursue policies that would accelerate the development of the Nation.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu on his part commended the President for the commencement of work on the Kumasi roads and urged him to ensure the contractors execute quality work.
He was hopeful that the Region would receive its fair share of development projects and assured the President of his support.
The President is expected to cut the sod for the commencement of various projects, inspect ongoing ones and also join the His Royal Highness for the celebration of the Akwasidae-which falls on Sunday, during his four day visit to the region.
