Hampshire (United Kingdom), Aug. 10, GNA – Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, the Ameer and Missionary in Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana has called on Citizens to vote for politicians with high moral values rather than on religious lines.
He said there was no need for Christians and Muslims to vote for politicians, who belong to their faith, when they know that they were not morally upright to lead the country.
Maulvi Bin Salih was speaking to the GNA on the sidelines of the 52nd Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Hampshire here in the United Kingdom.
The Annual event also known as Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in UK, is a unique event that brings more than 35,000 participants from over 100 countries.
The three-day event, which started from Friday, August 3 and ended on Sunday, August 5, is to increase religious knowledge and promote a sense of peace and brotherhood among Ahmadi Muslims.
He said the situation, where citizens vote for leaders, simply because they belong to their religious faith would not help in the development of the country.
He said politics has affected religion greatly, because "you find a Muslim or a Christian, who is not prepared to vote for a politician, who has moral values but will rather vote on religious lines."
Maulvi Bin Salih said instead of voting on religious lines, they should rather vote for politicians, who upholds high moral values to lead.
He said "l think the challenge with the selection of leaders for the country is as a result of citizens not practising their religions well enough."
He said, another thing that has taken centre stage in the country was materialism, why should a religious leader openly endorse a political candidate if not for a material gain.
A number of Parliamentarians, Civic Leaders and Diplomats from different countries addressed the gathering and underlined the convention's objective of enhancing unity, understanding and mutual respect.
The highlight of the event was a mass pledge of allegiance to the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih V.
His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih V, who is the fifth successor of the Promised Messiah benevolent leadership, provided the community with unity, guidance and direction and ensuring that it remains devoted to God and to the service of humankind.
The Jalsa featured exhibitions about the community's international activities and other educational stands. Special guided tours was also available.
He places his hand on top of the hands of those sitting immediately in front of him and they in turn put their hands on the shoulders of people around them who also do same, thereby making a continuous link of chain with the Khalifa.
As this chain extends out, the entire gathering was connected with the Khalifa.
Members pledged allegiance to the peaceful teachings of Islam and to the Khalifa's leadership of the community, and reaffirmed their commitment to the remembrance of God and the service of humanity.GNA
