Nsawam (E/R), Mar 13, GNA – Six persons arrested over deadly clashes between a group of sand winners and the youth of Yawkorkor, a village near Nsawam, that left one man dead, have been remanded into police custody by the Nsawam Magistrate Court.
Joshua Kwaku Zakinu, Kweku Ahiable, Ben Kpeli, Isaac Kpeli, Samuel Kwarshie and Alex Abordzi, have been provisionally charged with murder.
Their pleas were not taken and they would make their next appearance on March 22.
One other suspect, whose name was given as Ato Forson, is on the run and the police have launched a manhunt to seize and bring him to justice.
Police Inspector Fredrick Asante told the court, presided over by Ms. Veronique Abena Praba Monforis, that the incident happened on March 01, between the hours of 0200 hours and 0400 hours.
The youth in the village received information that their food crop farms were been destroyed by sand winners, mobilized themselves and moved to the place to stop the activity.
The prosecution said the sand winners, who were carrying guns, started shooting at the youth.
Charles Amoako also known as Kwabena Ketewa was hit by bullets and died instantly.
Other persons got hurt and were rushed to Nsawam Government Hospital for treatment.
