Accra, March. 16, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court has remanded five persons into police custody for allegedly possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
The five are Emeka Uju; music producer, Tony Ojo; student, Roland Kwabena Eshun; sound engineer, Emmanuel Awudzi; footballer and Richard Nagetey; trader.
The Accused persons pleaded not guilty and would reappear on March 29.
Chief Superintendent Duuti Tuaruka told the court that on March 10 at about 5:30am, the Kpeshie Divisional Police Command mounted an operation to clamp down on dealers and users of narcotics within Nungua and its environs.
He said in the course of the operation the police had information that a hotel situated at Nungua-Kotobabi had been harbouring some miscreants.
The Prosecution said the Police proceeded to the area and when the individual rooms of the accused persons were searched, one compressed slab quantity, a partially smoked joint, four wraps of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found.
He said the accused persons were subsequently arrested and escorted to the police station together with the exhibits for initial interrogation.
He said on March 13, the last accused person called at the police station and claimed to be the supplier of the dried leaves in the hotel room of Roland.
