Otoase (E/R), Sept. 3, GNA – The community leaders at Otoase and its surroundings have appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the provision of police protection, as burglary had become rampant in the area.
They said they were regularly confronted with a serious security situation where criminals ransacked their rooms, after leaving for their farms.
Mr Thompson made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on behalf of the chiefs and people from Otoase, Otoase Amanfro, Ayibontey and Otoase Odentehkrom in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.
He said the criminals, who were suspected to be carrying dangerous weapons did not only undertake break-ins, but also stole domestic animals like goats and sheep while under the influence of drugs like Indian hemp and tramadol.
The youth leader said their apprehension now was that schools would be re-opening and if measures were not put in place for security in the communities, the situation would be alarming as the criminals could ambush the girls and rape them.
Mr Thompson said the community members had approached the Coaltar Police Command for the provision of security, but to no avail hence their appeal to the IGP for his intervention.
