Enchi (W/R), July 10, GNA - A 66-year-old man, John Eric Ackah, has been fined GH¢600.00 by the Enchi District Magistrate court for driving without a license, and also using expired motor vehicle insurance and road worthy certificates.
Ackah pleaded with the trial judge Mr. Eric Baah Boateng to temper justice with mercy since it was not intentional.
The court convicted him on his own plea.
Detective Sergeant Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court that on July 4, 2018, officers from Enchi Division of Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service were on their usual motor checks on Yakasi road near Panyinkrom to ensure safety of travellers.
He said at about 9:45 am, the convict who was driving a Deawoo Matiz saloon car with registration number GM 825-12 arrived at the check point.
According to Mr Agyare, when the officers demanded for his drivers’ license, Ackah said he had none.
He said further inspection also revealed that his motor vehicle insurance and road worthy certificates of the vehicle had expired since April this year.
The prosecution said the car was impounded and sent to the Enchi olice station.
