Kumasi, Oct 10, GNA – About 3,276,000 people in the Ashanti Region have been targeted to benefit from free distribution of insecticide treated nets (ITN) under the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP).
Dr. Keziah Malm, the Programme Manager, who announced this, said they had started registering households for the purpose.
It is part of the drive to protect the people, particularly pregnant women and children, from the mosquito-borne disease - malaria.
She was speaking to journalists in Kumasi after visiting some communities in the region to see for herself how things were going.
Areas visited were in the Kumasi Metropolis, Kwadaso, Asante-Akim South and Asante-Akim Central Municipalities.
Similar registration exercises had already been carried out in seven regions – Volta, Central, Western, Brong-Ahafo, Northern and Upper East.
That of Greater Accra would be done from November 06 to 12.
Dr. Malm said there was going to be a different intervention to fight the malaria vector in the Upper West Region.
She encouraged everybody to sleep in the treated nets to avoid mosquito bites.
