Accra, Aug 30, GNA - The annual Ghana theatre festival – a sublime display of Ghanaian culture in its varied forms, begins on Monday, September 24.
The week-long celebration of the performing arts would showcase events and performances from both the established and amateur production houses.
They include the National Symphony Orchestra, National Drama Company, National Dance Company, University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts (Dance Department), Laugh Line, Two Idiots Productions Ehalakasa, Village Minds and F. C. Productions.
A press release by National Theatre of Ghana, the organizers, said there would be theatre programmes for schools, fashion shows, art exhibitions, dance-drama, drama, symposia, film shows, poetry nights, music and comedy.
There are also going to be a food bazaar and “Made in-Ghana” fair.
It said all the activities have been so selected and well-packaged to create a festival euphoria at the premises of the National Theatre, where all the performances would take place.
Main productions at the weekend have been scheduled for 1600 hours and 2000 hours each day and all other events – between 0900 hours and 2200 hours.
The food bazaar and Made in Ghana Fair is an all-week event with different food stalls, artisans and designers putting on public display their wares.
The release said the performances would begin on Tuesday, September 25, at 1900 hours, and going to involve all three resident groups of the National Theatre – National Symphony Orchestra, National Drama Company and National Dance Company.
‘This performance will set the tone for the festival and we can boldly say that from that first performance there will be no boring moments during this year’s festival”, it added.
The festival is part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the National Theatre and would provide insights into its future plans.
