Accra, Dec. 2, GNA - Afia Pokua, a seasoned broadcaster, has been adjudged the 2018 Ghana's Outstanding Woman Award (GOWA), at a very colourful ceremony held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The Adom FM presenter saw off competition from Yvonne Okoro, Philomena Antonio, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, Nana Aba Anamoah and Israella Kafui Mansu, who were nominated for the topmost award.
Mercy Tagoe, Black Queens assistant coach, won the Outstanding Woman in sports award, while Rosaline Amoh was adjudged the most outstanding sports journalist of the year.
Baaba Botchway, won the outstanding woman in health award, with Nana Adwoa Sifa Amponsah also winning the accolade in agriculture.
Francisca Duncun Williams, Gifty Anti, Nana Hemaa Adjoa Awindor and Models with Autism received honorary awards for their efforts in impacting lives in the country and beyond.
Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, Chief Executive Officer of ASKOF Productions, organizers of Ghana Outstanding Women Awards, reiterated the aim of the awards, which was to acknowledge and recognize women who have impacted the society in their respective endeavours.
"We acknowledge the achievement of our brilliant and hardworking mothers and ladies who have both made themselves and their family proud,'' she said.
She also highlighted the challenges encountered in the organisation of the awards, but remained defiant as they were confident of delivering an improved awards ceremony next year.
