Accra, Sept. 19, GNA - The 80th MTN Ghana Golf Open has been launched in Accra, with the best golfers in the nation expected to participate in the five day event at the Celebrity Golf Club, Sakumono.
The launch which attracted some of the country’s brilliant golfers like Mike Aggrey, Rene Gameli Kwame, Mona Mayers-Lamptey Captan, Margaret Owusu-Baah, Dr Felix K Frempong, president of the Ghana Golf Association, was to set the tone for the biggest Golf event in the country.
Perre Coussey, captain of the Celebrity Golf Club, expressed appreciation to MTN, Interplast and Goldfields Ghana for their financial support.
He revealed that the 90-hole event, is expected to capture the theme of the event, “The Spirit of the game”.
“The forthcoming event is not about Celebrity, Achimota, Tafo, Damang , Bok-Nam Kim, it is about the spirit of the game, which is having fun in a healthy competition, come let’s have fun and play to support a good cause”. Coussey said.
Coussey mentioned that the course is in its best shape for the event, courtesy Interplast, one of the major sponsors.
Michael Ikpoki, Chief Executive of MTN, title sponsor, described their association with the event as an opportunity to connect to their numerous customers, saying, “We considered sponsoring the flagship tournament as irresistible and a great opportunity to connect to our customers.
“We are passionate about this game. We have seen a lot of development in the game and we would continue to support it.” He added.
The launching also saw the commencement of registration for Lady’s qualifying event, while the professionals will take their turn on Wednesday.
The amateurs and juniors will take their turn on Saturday, which is the final day for the lady’s event. The competition will end on Sunday with tee-off from all categories except the ladies.
