Agomanya (E/R), Sept. 13, GNA - Mr Victor Smith, the Eastern Regional Minister, on Thursday inspected a collapsed bridge at Agormanya in the Lower Manya District.
The minister, accompanied by a team from the 48 Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Highways Authority and engineers from the District Assembly, inspected the bridge which was constructed some 30 years ago and collapsed on September 7 during a heavy downpour.
As a result of the collapse, trading has been disrupted prompting the Regional Minister to call on the Military and Ghana Highways Authority to help find an urgent solution to the problem.
The situation compelled the assembly to create a diversion to enable movement from one point to another possible to bring some relief to the people.
Mr Smith assured the people of the government’s readiness to reconstruct the bridge and appealed to the people to exercise patience.
He appealed to the engineers to start reconstruction work as soon as possible and urged them to expand the diversion.
Mr David Hammond, Eastern Regional Director of Ghana Highways, assured that he and his team would work hard and remedy the situation within six weeks and pledged the commitment of his outfit to collaborate with the 48 Engineer Regiment to construct the bridge within the scheduled time.
